Helen has a BA in Early Years, a Level 3 in Early Years Care and Education and is a qualified tutor in adult education. Helen was registered as a childminder in 1991 and worked both alone and later, alongside two co-childminders. The setting won a ‘childminder of the year’ award through the Early Years Educator (EYE) magazine for their work with children with additional needs and their support to parents. Helen also worked for the local authority for 15 years as a weekend respite carer for children with complex health needs. She was instrumental in accrediting the Richmond Childminding Network with the National Childminding Association (now PACEY) Children Come First Quality Assurance Scheme, in 2003. More recently, Helen has experience of supporting and monitoring childminders, full day-care and sessional nursery settings in her role as an Inclusion and Improvement Advisor for Achieving for Children alongside her role as Childminder Agency Officer. Helen continues to deliver the CACHE pre-registration training course for new childminders and safeguarding workshops for all practitioners. Helen is also a National Autistic Society (NAS) accredited trainer delivering the Early Bird course for parents of children with autism.
